So far the 100 items list is moving very slowly… but not for the reasons you’d expect. When I started the lists, I diligently recorded every item I threw away. Not because I was being extremely organised, but because it was the only way I could get rid of items; in the back of my mind if I had listed and photographed them, it was OK to remove. Otherwise, no way. But now… it’s reached a stage of kind of “meh, bin it”. Although I definitely still have some emotional attachment to items, I feel like there has been a subtle diminishing over time.
Back in September I turned 32, and him indoors turned 40 plus a bit more. Although I had dabbled around the minimalist vibe at Christmas last year, this year I decided to ramp it up a bit, as family and friends have started to get used to the whole idea. I kick started by looking through The Minimalists Gift-Giving guide, which helped with some inspiration for non-object related ideas.
I have been SO busy recently with an exciting new venture, so I have been completely neglecting my personal minimalism vibes. However things have died down a lot so I am setting myself a target to post each day this week to get up to date on what I have been doing and hopefully kick start some focus for myself again!
Whoop whoop whoop the living room is 95% done! And I have started on the back bedroom, which ended up with me getting rid of bit from the front bedroom to empty the two drawers under the bed… and that’s about it. Since the back bedroom is my Everest, I’m viewing this as an acclimatization period; you climb a bit, then rest, maybe go back down a bit, rest again, then maybe climb a bit again… don’t judge me!
Saw this quote a few days ago whilst waiting in Europcar Heathrow… a pertinent reminder of task still ahead!

OK OK OK, here goes… another 100 items to remove! That will take it to 656 items since I started this whole craziness in MAY LAST YEAR! 20 items in, so I thought it was time for an update of what’s gone, what’s next, and some other minimalist-inspired changes I am making outside of stuff reduction…. Quick breakdown of this round of item removal – as always, target to recycle 85% of items, and this time I hit that shit:
- 87% recycled
- 13% thrown away
The majority went into confidential waste (at work, naughty!) which is recycled off site, or to charity shops. See Losing 100 Items for a complete breakdown.
Wo-fucking-ho, made it to 100 items!! This has been a much longer road than I expected when I started this, in part due to changes in personal life which have eaten up a lot of spare time, and some general laziness on my behalf. But I am finally here, and what a way to celebrate, with a picture of my manky old bra…
It has been so fricking crazy recently… getting a grip on a new job and a new city, and just an awesome but totally exhausting amount of socialising and flat DIY. So the minimalism vibes have gone on the back burner a bit, but I intend to hit 100 tomorrow at last!
